Book Review of “Who Ordered This Truckload Of Dung? the 2nd”: Heart made by Teflon

Couple weeks ago I finished the Ajahn Brahm’s book Who Ordered This Truckload Of Dung?, the 2^nd. This is may be the most enlightening book I had ever read. The book is like the chicken-soup short story only that it is a Buddhist monk experience, known as Ajahn Brahm. One of the stories that stunned me is about anger. While modern psychology tells us to manage our anger, he simply said how not to be angry, two steps earlier before anger takes place.

Anger, the book said, takes us buried deeper. Being angry makes our feeling worse and sadder than the sad moment actually took. When we are angry it is like we shoot fireball to anyone who make us angry by our hand. Sometimes we got and hurt the target but sometimes not. One thing for sure, every time we shoot, the fireball hurt our hand.

NICE TRY WORDPRESS!

Today I’d got happy New Year greeting from wordpres. It’s a surprise actually to get a greeting not only light saying “Happy New Year” but also the highlight of my blogging activity in 2010. The opening greeting by using “boeing analogy’ is kind of cool. If not mistaken, this is the first time wordpress ‘s new year greeting. It’s not that I can’t have the blog statistical information unless I got the greeting. I can just click wordpress to know my blog statistic. But the information coming with greeting is so industrious that wordpress reminds me having a abandoned blog. It’s been awhile since my last blog in August last year.
Of course for wordpress’s sake, it’s just a matter of survival strategy. Anti attrition strategy for the unprecedented pierce competition ever. But still, I love it. Nice try wordpress! You are awesome too!

My Facebook

I Love Books & Writing: Facebook is always considered private for me.  I set a rule that only a person I met in my life will be added or approved in my facebook account. Even if he/she lived in the same neighborhood, or came to the same high school, I will still ignore him/her if I don’t know him/her in personal. I can’t tolerate a stranger posting and commenting in my facebook space. Some consider it as a rude but for me it’s a choice of how you will treat your facebook account.

So here I am, having a facebook account with hundreds or so of friends that I knew in personal.  With some of them I have a lot of memory, but mostly just a reminder that he/she had ever scripted an experience in my youth hood.  

Limiting friends doesn’t mean I don’t have concerns. However, I have couple.

Tahun 1999 adalah pemilu saya yang pertama sekaligus pemilu mutli partai pertama Indonesia setelah tiga dekade berada dalam kekuasaan Orba. Masa-masa tersebut adalah masa euforia di mana setiap orang bisa mendirikan partai apa pun. Waktu itu saya memilih PAN, sesuai janji saya dalam hati ketika berpanas-panas mendukung Amine Rais di depan gedung rektorat UGM di tahun 1998. Hasil pemilu, meski masuk electoral threshold, perolehan suara PAN tidak seperti yang diharapkan. Saya menyayangkan begitu banyak kesempatan yang dilewatkan dan tidak digunakan oleh PAN dan Amin Rais ketika memimpin Poros Tengah. Setelah itu, anggota legislatif dari PAN juga tidak berbeda dengan partai yang lain. GIGO, Garbage IN Garbage Out. Terima suap ayo, jalan-jalan ke luar negeri pakai uang negara ayo, selingkuh ayo, dan mendukung banyak undang-undang yang tidak produktif.

Saya kecewa berat. Mungkin seharusnya saya tidak memupuk harapan yang terlalu tinggi dengan partai yang identik dengan Amin Rais ini. Setelah itu saya ngga peduli lagi dengan Pemilu. Pemilu buat saya priviledge untuk berlibur. Saya tidak keberatan untuk tidak masuk dalam daftar pemilih tetap meskipun saya punya KTP sah dan masih berlaku. Dengan tidak memilih paling tidak saya tidak berkontribusi menyumbang suara untuk memilih koruptor, tidak berkontribusi untuk memilih anggota legislatif yang kalau tidur dalam rapat pleno jauh lebih membantu daripada kalau ngga tidur.

REVIEW BUKU: CARA CERDAS BERINVESTASI SAHAM

Beberapa teman berpendapat  timing peluncuran buku ini tidak tepat mengingat bursa saham lah yang paling terkena dampak krisis keuangan global tapi menurut saya sepanjang pasar saham masih ada, buku ini tetap relevan untuk dipedomani.

Ditulis oleh Tryfino, trader individu yang sukses dalam stock trading, buku ini mengajarkan cara bijak bermain saham dengan kombinasi analisis fundamental dan analisis teknikal yang handal namun sederhana dan mudah dimengerti.  Analisis fundamental  menjadi screening utama bagi para trader pemula untuk memilih saham melalui nilai book value, price to book value, earning per share dan price to earning ratio. Disarankan trader pemula tidak memilih lebih dari 5 saham mengingat banyaknya saham akan membuat trader pemula yang kebanyakan partimer trader terpecah perhaitannya. Pemilihan saham berdasar analisis fundamental merupakan mitigasi risiko pertama di mana saham yang terpilih adalah saham berkinerja baik, murah dan nilainya berpotensi tumbuh di masa depan.

A REASON TO SUPPORT ABORTION

I Love Books & Writing: The uncovered medical clinics performing illicit abortions by the police made me think a lot. Couple years ago I received forwarded email that showed many awful aborted fetus’ pictures. The pictures made me sick. Did these should be-mothers have a heart? It was unimaginable way to die. My second impression was how brave these should-be mothers were. While the doctor stabbing the fetus inside the uterus, these females faced death risk too. Why females (single or married) have to risk their life to do abortion?

The most reason of a patient to do abortion will probably be the incapability to provide the future baby a good and healthy life economically and psychologically. If it is the reason, why not legalized the abortion not only for the sake of the baby but also for the sake of the should be-mother and the community?

Film Review: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

I Love Books : I was very curious about The Benjamin Button’ trailer but little bit reluctant to watch since the idea of born old is however against the natural law. As you can guess, the movie told us about the man who was born old and instead of growing older, he grew younger.  But after watching the movie I really want to share a comment here.

Supported by A-list Hollywood movie star such as Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, the film challenge was how to picture Benjamin Button in almost every life stage; very elderly, older, mature, young, teenager and boy. Thank goodness the director didn’t have an idea to put Brad Pitt to cast Benjamin Button for every age (I was so sick watching Eddie Murphie act as every role in his many movies that I can’t remember).
