I was very curious about The Benjamin Button’ trailer but little bit reluctant to watch since the idea of born old is however against the natural law. As you can guess, the movie told us about the man who was born old and instead of growing older, he grew younger. But after watching the movie I really want to share a comment here.
Supported by A-list Hollywood movie star such as Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, the film challenge was how to picture Benjamin Button in almost every life stage; very elderly, older, mature, young, teenager and boy. Thank goodness the director didn’t have an idea to put Brad Pitt to cast Benjamin Button for every age (I was so sick watching Eddie Murphie act as every role in his many movies that I can’t remember).
The cast of Benjamin Button were Peter Donald Badalamenti II for elder Benjamin (hmm, if he were an Indonesian actor, his first producer would advise him to change his name), Robert Towers (Benjamin 1932-34), Tom Everett (Benjamin 1935-37), Brad Pitt (mature Benjamin), Spencer Daniels (Benjamin as looked like age 12), Chandler Canterbury (Benjamin as looked as age 8 ) and Charles Henry Wyson (Benjamin as looked as age 6). Even with so many casts played as Benjamin Button, we still believe they looked like Brad Pitt although I doubt that Mr Pitt will be looked like Benjamin Button in his elderly life.
I am not surprised when Pitt didn’t win the award for leading role because the film’s power lay on the artistic things and on the script that had a strong message. The film tag “Life isn’t measured in minutes but in moment” somehow delivered well from the beginning to the end of the film. David Fincher, the director successful to filmed Eric Roth’s story of age definition paradox. Time however is a man’s definition, definition that limited by our physical appearance.
However, it was Benjamin Button’s whispering wishes for her daughter that impressed me a lot:
“Be whoever you wanna be,
There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want,
You can change or stay, there’s no rule to this,
We can make the best for the worst time,
I hope you make the best,
I hope you see things doesn’t stall you,
I hope you meet people with different of view
I hope u feel things you never felt,
Don’t be afraid of the life you proud of,
If you find what you not,
I hope you have strength to stall or left forget”.
